Can Gentle Survive?
Manatees, often called “Sea Cows”, are one of the gentlest and most docile creatures in all of nature. They have been at the center of a long-running feud in Florida waters between recreational boaters who strike and kill dozens of manatees every year, and those who wish to save these animals. Noise pollution, the draining of their native rivers, hydroelectric power plants, and a multitude of other human activities all contribute to the potential demise of these extraordinary creatures. Thousands of species of birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles call this vast region their home. It is also a major water supply for all life in Florida, human and non-human alike. Our abuse of the everglades has finally been recognized and we are taking steps to reverse the damage done my draining and construction. See this important short film by Blue Voice.
